Hafiz Kamaluddin was killed allegedly by some police personnel, who later concocted a story that Kamaluddin was a mentally deranged person and was killed in a scuffle with a rickshaw-puller.

A two-member delegation of the commission consisting of the commission members Arnold James and Pushpender Singh called on Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Ashok Yadav here Monday and held a long discussion with him on the killing of Hafiz Kamaluddin.

The commission members directed the DCP to submit a report to the commission.

The DCP however explained to the delegation that the police had never declared Kamaluddin to be a mentally deranged person. He said the police control room had received two calls informing them that a mentally weak person was posing danger to the local people.

On the question why the police have not yet recorded the statement of Kamaluddin's wife in this case, the DCP informed the delegation that the police couldn't do so because the widow is passing through the Iddat period during which she was unable to make a statement.
