The protest at Gandhi Chowk in Old Goa lasted three hours, party leader Y.S.V Datta told IANS.

The arrested men, including JD-S Karnataka general secretary Pramod Hegde, were found to be carrying Rs.900,000 in cash for the election expenses of 12 candidates that the party has fielded for the Goan assembly polls June 2. All the five were arrested at a resort in Vasco Sunday night but have been released on bail, Datta said.

He said Deve Gowda would stay put in Goa, campaigning for the candidates.

Datta said his party was fighting the polls on its own and had not entered into an alliance with any party.
