BJP general secretary Jaitley flew in here late Tuesday evening and left Wednesday morning after the secret meeting at a private residence, reliable sources close to the two organisations told IANS.

The Nagpur police also confirmed that the BJP leader visited the city, where the RSS has its headquarters.

Keeping his visit confidential, Jaitley did not visit the RSS' Sangh Shiksha Varg or centralized annual summer camp, which is in progress here.

Bhagwat, the executive head of RSS, and Jaitley are believed to have discussed strategies to refurbish the party organisation in the politically important state of Uttar Pradesh well before the general elections due in 2009, the sources said.

The party badly lost in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections earlier this month.
