Two Palestinians killed in car explosion in West Bank

Ramallah : Two Palestinian militants were killed when a car they were traveling in exploded in the West Bank city of Nablus, the Voice of Palestine radio said on Thursday.

It said the explosion late Wednesday night was intended to kill Sufian Kandeel, a leader of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in Nablus, but he was not hurt.

According to the radio, the car explosion, which took place in the old city of Nablus, was an Israeli assassination attempt against Kandeel. It said Kandeel was supposed to get into the car that was booby trapped and sent to Nablus for him. The explosion was set off from a distance, it said.

The two who were killed were members of the al-Aqsa Brigades, age 18 and 22, said the radio. Their bodies were charred as the car caught on fire after the explosion.

Seven other people were hurt in the explosion but their injuries were reported to be between moderate and light.
