Islamabad : Pakistan’s Supreme Court Thursday asked the federal and provincial governments to submit a detailed report within a week on the blasts in Karachi at the homecoming rally of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Benazir Bhutto, the News Network International news agency reported.
“Let the government file the report, then next step will be taken”, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who was heading the bench hearing the case, said Thursday.
Babar Awan, counsel of Benazir Bhutto, called for compensation to the victims of the tragedy, saying the government was legally bound to compensate those affected in the blasts.
The court adjourned the hearing till Nov 8.
The court Wednesday took suo motu notice of the bomb blasts in the southern port city of Karachi, which left at least 140 people dead and more than 500 others injured.
Benazir Bhutto had said she was not satisfied with the investigation conducted by some security agencies of Pakistan and demanded involvement of foreign experts. The government turned down her request, stressing that it was capable of handling the case.
