Washington, Nov 1 (IANS) Three Indian American students were among the 40 winners of a talent hunt show “Discovery Channel’s Young Scientist Challenge” (DCYSC) 2007.
The winners – of the Indian origin – of the show held in October are Gokul Krishnan, Prem Thottumkara of Illinois, and Rohit Kamat of Texas.
Gokul won the “Build It Bigger” prize, allowing him to join TV host Danny Forster on a tour of Manhattan’s skyline, and Prem was awarded the “Emerging Networks’ US Space and Rocket Centre” prize enabling him to attend space camp or the aviation challenge in Huntsville, Alabama.
Rohit Kamat of Texas won the “Discovery Commerce” prize, and got a $1,000 gift voucher to Discoverystore.com and the five-DVD gift set of Planet Earth.
All the finalists were chosen based on their written essays about science fair projects that they had presented at their local science fairs held across the country.
The winners have received approximately $700,000 in scholarship awards and federal government recognition.
DCYSC is an annual science competition for young students launched by Discovery channel in 1999.
