“We are working with the authorities here and hope to send the bodies across to the respective home states as soon as possible,” India’s consul general Venu Rajamony told IANS.

“We are in touch with the families in India of all the deceased,” he added.

Asked if there is any timeframe within which the bodies will be dispatched, the consul general said, “No, we are working to send across the bodies as soon as possible.”

The accident occurred Thursday evening at a bridge construction site on the Sufooh Road near the Jumeirah Marina Mall here, an area marked by high-rise residential and commercial buildings.

All the seven dead were Indian nationals. Nineteen workers were also injured in the accident.

Wade Adams Contracting Company, which employed the workers, has announced compensation worth 10 years’ salary for the families of each of the deceased.
