Chennai : Spanish tennis wizard and clay court specialist Carlos Moya, currently 17th in the world ATP rankings, has confirmed his participation for the Chennai Open to be held here from Dec 31.
This will be Moya’s 6th appearance in the last seven years.
Winner of 20 ATP singles championships, Moya had lost to Austrian Stefan Koubek earlier this year.
“I always look forward to coming to India and especially Chennai. The adulation and support of the Chennai crowd is fantastic. I am confident of being able to raise my game to the highest level to win the title during my forthcoming visit,” Moya was quoted as saying.
“Players like Moya bring excitement to our tournament. He is a darling of the crowds,” remarked Fernando Soler, director of the tournament.
The week-long tournament is conducted under the aegis of the All India Tennis Association (AITA), with the active collaboration of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) and Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA).
