“The personal financial services desk (kiosks) will be manned by members of self-help groups trained to sell financial products by the company,” said Reliance Money CEO Sudip Bandyopadhyay.

The kiosks will offer equity, loans and general and life insurance products, he added.

An estimated 2.2 million people living in 16,000 villages across 18 states where the foundation works on alleviating poverty could avail of these services without having to go to the nearest town.

The scheme became operational Tuesday in Gujarat and will be operational in 17 other states soon, Bandyopadhyay told reporters here.

Bandyopadhyay said the scheme would contribute to employment generation in rural areas.

Kapoor Chandaria, chairman of the foundation, said: “We have worked many years in rural areas to improve the quality of life by affecting a linkage between resources.”

“If natural and human resources of rural areas can be linked with financial resources, poverty elimination could be achieved much faster. The association with Reliance Money establishes this vital triple linkage,” he asserted.
