Meeting demand equal rights for all Dalits irrespective of religion

Hyderabad: A meeting of Dalit Muslims and Christian held in Andhra Pradesh’s capital demanded delinking of religion from caste.

Meeting organized at Osmania University Centre for International Programmes (OUCIP), this Saturday. The meeting attended by prominent members of various Dalits, Muslims and Chrstians organization demanded the Central Government to table the Ranganath Mishra Commission Report in the Parliament. Ranganath Mishra have recommended extending reservation benefits to Dalit Muslims and Dalit Christians as well. The meeting demanded the full implementation of the Commission’s recommendations so that Dalits who have become Muslim and Chrisstian should get the same privileges like representation in the legislatures, legal protection and reservations as given to Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist Dalits.

Rev. Marampudi Joji, Archbishop of Hyderabad, Mr. Potturi Venkateswara Rao, Mr. M.M. Khan, President of Jamaat-e- Islami Hind who is incharge of AP and Orissa, and Prof. Kancha Ilaiah were among the prominent personalities who addressed the Round Table conference.

Mr. G. Alfred IPS (Retd.) President of UFDCR (United Front for Dalit Christian Rights, gave the key-note address. Mr.Aariz Mohammed, Coordinator for AIUMM (All India United Muslim Morcha,-South) explained various documents concerning the present issue. Rev. Fr. AXJ. Bosco SJ moderated the conference. Mr. Sleeva Galleli, General Secretary of UFDCR gave vote of thanks.
