Ranchi : A business chamber in Jharkhand has decided to disassociate itself from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), alleging that the national body did not raise problems faced by the state’s businesses.

Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) is a leading business body in Jharkhand. More than 1,000 businesses are associated with FJCCI, which was affiliated with CII.

FJCCI has been raising its voice against the worsening law and order situation in the state. It alleges that CII is silent on this serious issue.

“Despite repeated requests, the local unit of CII did not raise the issue. Local businessmen are facing tough times in the state and the CII is indifferent,” said Manoj Naredi, vice-president of FJCCI.

The FJCCI last week sent a letter to CII asking why it should not disassociate itself from the association.

The differences cropped over the trade fair organised by the Jharkhand government on Nov 14 in Ranchi. FJCCI boycotted the fair and raised 14 demands that included improving law and order and removing anomalies in the value-added tax regime.

CII was one of the partners of the state government in organising the trade fair.

“Despite knowing that we were boycotting the trade fair, CII helped the government to organise the fair. We want trade in the state and not just fairs,” said Pradeep Jain, secretary of FJCCI.
