Ranchi : India ODI cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, hockey player Vimal Lakra and archer Paltan Hansda will be given best player awards by the Jharkhand assembly.

The awards will be given on the establishment day of the state assembly — Nov 22.

“This year the committee has decided to honour sportspersons of the state” said Arjun Munda, former chief minister and member of the assembly committee that chooses the award winners.

This year, the best legislator award will go to P.N Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The best civil servant award will go to A.K. Singh, an Indian Administrative Service officer of the 1977 batch, though he is currently facing corruption charges and was jailed for a month in 2003.

Defending the decision, Ramchandra Chandravansi, a member of the assembly committee and Rashtriya Jant Dal legislator, said: “the court has not convicted Singh. Without conviction no one can be said to be corrupt.”
