Jakarta : Indonesia has called on the UN Security Council not to rush into passing another resolution on the Iranian nuclear dispute before receiving the latest report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), local press said Monday.

Indonesia is at present one of the 15 non-permanent members of the council and will take over the council’s presidency in November.

Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said the council would not hold a new debate on Iran’s nuclear programme without the latest reports from the UN nuclear body, reported English daily The Jakarta Post.

“We’re appreciative that Iran is showing a cooperative attitude in communicating with the IAEA, and we’d like to encourage closer work between them,” the minister was quoted as saying.

Indonesia voted to abstain in the last resolution on Iran, stirring political havoc at home when legislators sought a direct explanation from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
