New Nobel Prize Winner to Be Chosen Thursday

Stockholm, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) The new Literature Nobel Prize winner will be known next Thursday, as confirmed by the Swedish Academy Friday, and the announcement caused habitual fright in cultural media.

Highly qualified authors such as Mexican Carlos Fuentes return to the list of candidates, and the names of US writers Philippe de Roth and Don DeLillo have started to sound from one mouth to the other.

But with the Nobel Prize, nothing is definitely written. In 2002, the winner was Hungarian Imre Kertesz, surprisingly, a writer of minorities, almost unknown.

A year later, the winner was a South African writer named John Maxwell Cohetes, and in 2004, an Austrian named Elfriede Jelinek, who did not go to the awarding ceremony.

The Swedish Academy keeps a great silence on its possible election and does not let people see who its possible candidates are.

Some media insist on Italian novelist Claude Magris and Australian poet Les Murray.

With a fund of 1.37 million dollars, the Literature Nobel Prize also brings celebrity on the winners, though sometimes it has been temporary.

Names like Sully Prudhomme (France), Pearl S. Buck (USA) and Jacinto Benaventes (Spain) are a good evidence of forgotten writers.
