Rome, Oct 6 (Prensa Latina) Mohamed El Baradei, general director of the International Atomic Energy Agency asserted on Friday that the nuclear threats in the world today are more dangerous and complex.

El Baradei, awarded on Friday in Florence, an Italian city, the doctor honoris causa distinction in Physics and Astrophysics, held there is an illegal nuclear technology market that responds to extremist groups’s interests.

In this respect, winner of the 2005 Peace Nobel Prize called to boost the IAEA capacity and verification authority, and warned that some countries are trying to develop secret nuclear programs, while extremist groups try to buy that kind of weapons.

According to El Baradei, it is ironic that the world leaders speak against nuclear proliferation, when the IAEA members should work with obsolete equipment and small budget to develop new verification and control technologies.

The IAEA, founded in 1957, to speed up and increase contribution to atomic energy, established nuclear security and environmental protection regulations, and encourages scientific and technical information exchange.
