“The boys were unprepared and had no place to go as they were asked to turn up after two days. Many protested, others took to the streets in the Sadar Bazar area and started pelting stones at shops,” said a Sadar Bazar shopkeeper.

According to a source, the young aspirants got violent around 4 a.m. when information about the postponement of the recruitment process was conveyed to them.

The area from Nand cinema crossing in Sadar bazar to Sai ki Takia witnessed pelting of stones, slogan shouting, and attacks on buses and vehicles going to schools in the Agra Cantonment area. The schools in the area were later closed for the day.

Thousands of aspirants had come from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand for the recruitment process.

District authorities said the situation was brought under control by Monday afternoon.
