Mumbai : Subramaniam Badrinath will replace injured opener Gautam Gambhir for the remaining matches against Australia in the Future Cup, the Indian cricket board announced here Monday.
Gambhir sustained an injury in his groin when he slipped while batting at the nets in Chandigarh Sunday.
Gambhir was rushed for an MRI but no significant injury was revealed. From initial findings and clinical presentation, it appears that he would be unavailable for at least two weeks.
Based on medical reports, the selection committee has decided to replace Gambhir with Badrinath, who is currently representing the Rest of India team against the Ranji Trophy winners Mumbai in the ongoing Irani Trophy match.
