Ramadoss said that even if there were mid-term polls for parliament, there would be no mid-term assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

“The assembly elections will be held only in 2011 and we will continue to support the DMK government till then”, Ramadoss said.

PMK has been a strong critic of the government’s policies ever since M. Karunanidhi government assumed power in May 2006, fuelling gossip that it is ready to support the rival AIADMK.

Ramadoss’s remarks assume significance in view of media reports here that the Congress, an ally of the ruling DMK, is not too happy with the party over its remarks on Hindu god Ram.

There are also media reports that Dalit Panthers (DPI) leader T. Thirumavalavan, a Karunanidhi supporter and member of DPA, is exploring a possibility of allying with DMDK leader and popular actor Vijaykanth and Sarath Kumar, who last month floated a new party named All-India Samathuva Makkal Katchi.

As Vijaykanth is known to be sympathetic to the Congress, this story has given rise to rumours that a third front sans DMK and AIADMMK may come up in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK government in Tamil Nadu has 95 seats in the house of 234 and is supported from the outside by the Congress, PMK, two Left Parties and the DPI, besides two minor parties.
