Kapur gets his best result in eight months

Madrid, (IANS) Despite struggling with his putting, Shiv Kapur put together a round of one-under 71 to finish 18th at the Open de Madrid Valle Romano for his best result in almost eight months since the Indonesia Open.

Kapur, who seemed to have found form on the greens with just 24 putts in the third round, went to the other extreme with 34 putts in the final round. He nevertheless stayed calm to give away just two bogeys against three birdies. “There were just two many two-putts after getting to the green,” he said. He also had a three-putt on one of his bogeys.

Kapur is now 96th on the European Money List and will next week play in Portugal, where he will be joined by Jeev Milkha Singh and the newly crowned Indian Open champion Jyoti Randhawa.

Mads Vibe-Hastrup of Denmark won the Open de Madrid Valle Romano title by three strokes at the Real Sociedad Hipica Española Club de Campo. A final round of five under par 67 saw him finish at 16 under par four round total of 272. He was three clear of local favourite Alejandro Cañizares, who fired a final round 68 to finish three strokes behind Vibe-Hastrup.

Argentina’s Daniel Vancsik, the leader for the first three rounds, lost his victory chance with a quintuple bogey nine on the fifth hole. Vancsik was two shots ahead of the field at the time but never recovered from that big error and finished third at 12 under with a 73.
