Jayalalitha said she would write to the president, the prime minister, the union home minister and file a writ mandamus before the Madras High Court to expose “diabolical designs” on her life.

“The threat to my life is very real. Thank God, I was alerted by my sister Sasikala and her relative Ilavarasi in time. Else, a potential killer could have trespassed into my personal room,” she said.

Earlier, Electricity Minister Arcot N. Veerasamy dismissed Tuesday’s incident as “inconsequential”. AIADMK and MDMK legislators contested this on the floor of the state assembly and later walked out of the house.

“According to our information, the so-called intruder was a harmless visitor to the house to seek a job,” Veerasamy said.

Jayalalitha shot back: “As usual, the minority DMK regime is playing it down. Nobody was scheduled to see me, and visitors do not enter my residence wearing shoes. The question to be asked is how the police overlooked such a vital incident.”

“I have it on good authority that when (Chief Minister M.) Karunanidhi underlined the need to nurture the present alliance till the next assembly polls during a recent conversation with his son (Local Administration Minister M.K.) Stalin, (the latter) said I might not be alive when that happens.

“In spite of the fact that I am in the ‘Z Plus’ category, the Tamil Nadu government has allocated only three constables to guard me. Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has a security detail of 65 police personnel even when he is at home. Now it is for the media to draw its own conclusions,” Jayalalitha said.

She claimed her life was in danger from terrorist organisations like the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and its apologist extremist bodies in Tamil Nadu.

“I had rooted out terrorism from Tamil Nadu, for which the enemies of the nation have not forgiven me,” Jayalalitha added.
