The main accused, Virabrahmam, and his accomplice Anil were shot dead when they snatched a weapon from a policeman and fired at them, police said.

The incident took place near Rishikonda on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam in the evening, a couple of hours after their capture by the police along with a third accused, who is still in police custody.

According to the police the duo were taken to recover the cell phone of the bank official and files relating to loan the accused had drawn from bank.

Visakhapatnam police commissioner Sambasiva Rao said the accused snatched a revolver from one of the policemen and opened fire injuring one constable.

The police party returned the fire in self-defence killing both the accused on the spot.

Earlier, the body of K.K. Prasad, the manager of Dwarkanagar branch of Bank of Indore, was found near Revti panchayat in Padmnabham Mandal.

The police official said Virabrahmam along with his two friends kidnapped Prasad after inviting him to discuss the issue relating to his bank loan Thursday night.

“They strangulated him with a wire, poured kerosene over his body and set it afire,” he said.

Virabrahmam, a businessman, had taken a loan of Rs.750,000 from the bank but did not repay within the stipulated time. Acting firmly against the defaulter, the bank manager had ordered auction of his property to recover the loan. Angered over this, Virabrahmam hatched a conspiracy to eliminate him.
