Poll panel deputes observers for Himachal elections

New Delhi : The Election Commission Tuesday deputed observers for the three high-altitude assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh that go to polls on Nov 14.

It has deputed three general and three expenditure observers for the constituencies of Bharmour, Kinnnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.

Polling for the three reserved Scheduled Tribes constituencies is being held ahead of the elections to the remaining 65 constituencies because these areas get land locked in the winters following heavy snowfall. The passes to these areas are officially closed on Nov 15.

The observers are expected to reach these constituencies by Oct 27, the last date of filing of nominations for contesting the polls.

he scrutiny of nominations will be done Oct 29, and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is Oct 31.

Both the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have announced their candidates for the polls.

On Monday, the BJP has approved the name of Tejwant Negi as the candidate for Kinnaur segment, Tulsi Ram from the Bharmour constituency in Chamba, and Ram Lal Markanday, a former minister, as its candidate from Lahaul-Spiti.
