The blast occurred when the security forces truck was passing through Mingora, a city in Swat valley of NWFP, leaving 30 security men dead and at least 15 injured.

The injured were shifted to a local hospital and some of them are reported to be in critical condition.

Reports said that the explosion also destroyed 15 shops and some vehicles.

There is no immediate confirmation about the incident from the authorities.

Earlier, security forces engaged the militants after they blew up the newly established Kanju check post at the Ayub bridge in the valley.

The government Wednesday deployed thousands of soldiers in Swat valley to curb activities of militant leader Maulana Fazalullah and his followers.

Army spokesman Waheed Arshad was quoted by Dawn News Wednesday as saying that all steps would be taken to stop the illegal activities of Maulana Fazalullah.

Fazalullah said that he welcomed the deployment of security forces but warned the authorities against any military operation.

Media reports suggest that Fazalullah has moved to a mountainous region of Kohistan in NWFP in view of a possible military operation against him.

Fazalullah is the leader of a banned pro-Taliban extremist group Tehrik Nifaz-e-Shariat Muhammadi.
