Jaipur : Members of the Asia Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC) are meeting here Thursday to discuss ways to improve bilateral economic relations between Asia and the US.

Twenty-six members of APCAC are meeting at a two-day conference organised by the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) at Jaipur.

It is the first time in the 45-year history of the APCAC that India is hosting the annual meeting of its executive directors.

Several issues affecting operation of American companies in the region are being discussed, including American visa issues, role of AMCHAM in the host country’s policy on free trade agreements and corporate social responsibility activities of US companies in India.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Ramesh Bajpai, executive director, AMCHAM India, said: “Asia Pacific is undergoing dynamic economic growth, which is evident in the near double digit growth rates of many countries in the region. The chamber is a catalyst to improve trade relations between these countries and US companies.”

The group will deliberate on structuring the chamber’s communication strategies for closer involvement of government and business organisations to mutually benefit economic relations between the two regions.
