Beijing : Congress president Sonia Gandhi is currently on a five-day visit to China, foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said Thursday.
Liu said at a regular press conference that Gandhi was invited by the Communist Party of China (CPC). During her visit, she will meet CPC and China’s state leaders.
“We attach great importance to Sonia’s China visit, which will further promote the relations between the two parties, enhance the understanding between the two peoples and push forward the friendly cooperation between the two countries,” said Liu.
Besides Beijing, Gandhi will visit Xi’an, capital of northwestern Shaanxi Province, and China’s economic hub Shanghai.
