Indian bourses climb record high

Mumbai : It was a yet another historic day for Indian stock markets as the benchmark index breached previous highs to set a new peak amidst robust buying across the board.

The markets opened the new series of derivatives on a robust note as the bulls rushed the markets to a new zenith.

The benchmark sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at a record high of 19,252, gaining 481.46 points or 2.56 percent. The broader S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange ended up by 139.20 points or 2.50 percent notching at 5,708.

Sensex saw thumping gains of 500 points and the broader markets also notched up significant gains. Cues from other Asian markets were encouraging with most of them ending in the green.

Among the top gainers on the index were L&T at Rs.3,872.80 up 12.38 percent, SBI at Rs.2079.9 up 6.76 percent and National Aluminium at Rs.321.30 up 5.90 percent.

Top losers on the index were Bharti Airtel at Rs.990.70 down 2.77 percent, Hindustan Unilever Ltd at Rs.217.80 down 1.34 percent and ITC at Rs.180.25 down 1.45 percent.
