Cueists Merchant, Anuja eliminated in Asian Indoor Games

Macau : India’s Yasin Merchant and Anuja Chandra crashed out Sunday in the men’s singles snooker and women’s 8-ball pool singles respectively at the second Asian Indoor Games here.

Merchant, a two-time Asian champion, had a bye in the first round and then lost his pre-quarters clash to Mustafa Shehab of the United Arab Emirates 2-4.

Anuja had a bye in the first round before scoring a comprehensive 7-3 win over P.P. Neviyanti of Indonesia in the round of 16 to make it to the quarterfinals.

However, she ran into Thai cueist S. Jaisuekul in the last eight. She lost 3-7 and got eliminated.

The four semi-finalists in the women’s 8-ball pool singles are Chihiro Kawahara of Japan, Jaiseukul, Taiwan’s Sai Pei Chen and Yukiko Hamanishi of Japan.

Some 3,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries and regions are taking part in 17 sports and three demonstration sports in the nine-day event that ends Nov 3.
