Ankara : While Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan was heading Friday to the army leadership to discuss Iraqi suggestions to end the current dispute over the possible military assault on northern Iraq, news spread regarding the refusal of the army to meet with the visiting Iraqi delegation due to the inclusion of some Kurdish officials in the team.
According to the website of Turkish N.T.V news channel, Babacan ended the second round of discussions with the Iraqi officials heading to the military headquarters to present the suggestions.
However, another Turkish news website indicated that the meeting was disrupted due to the refusal of the Turkish army to convene with the Iraqi delegation, saying that the team had some Kurdish officials. The same meeting was cancelled yesterday due to the same reason.
The current meeting between officials from both countries will be the last effort to resolve the matter in diplomacy. Turkey would embark on a military campaign in northern Iraq if diplomacy failed.
