Amritsar : A jailor in Punjab was Wednesday evening caught by officials of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for possessing 350 gm of heroin.
The heroin seized from him is worth Rs.3.5 million in the international market.
Central jail warden Jasbir Singh was arrested by NCB officials on the outskirts of this Sikh holy city following a tip-off.
NCB sources said that the heroin could have been smuggled from Pakistan, as the international border is only 30 km from here.
He is the second jail official to be arrested for possessing drugs within a month.
Pawan Kumar, a jail official, was arrested with over 200 gm of heroin, worth Rs.2 million, in September.
Punjab has emerged as a big market for drugs smuggling and distribution. Most of the drugs are smuggled from the Afghanistan-Pakistan side.
NCB officials say the drugs mafia was operating in Punjab jails through a network of jail officials.
