Kissinger has been in India for the past few days, meeting Indian politicians of all hues to lobby for the nuclear deal that is facing opposition from some political quarters here.

According to informed sources, Kissinger and Deora had a one and half hour-long meeting, with only former US ambassador Frank Wisner for company.

The sources said Kissinger told the minister that none of the previous US government had ever batted for India as strongly as the Bush administrations, urging New Delhi to grab the opportunity to break its nuclear isolation.

They added Kissinger did not bring up the issue of India’s energy relations with Iran during the conversation.
