Jammu : A solider committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substances, while on leave, at his residence in Gurra Salthia area of Samba tehsil.
Official sources said that twenty-two years old Sepoy Abhishek Singh Slathia of 157 TA posted at Domana Jammu was on leave from August 28.
He was shifted to Government Medical College Hospital Jammu due to acute abdomen pain on the same day, sources said, adding due to his deteriorating condition the solider was shifted to Military hospital on August 29.
Well informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that the solider breathed his last in the hospital, at about 5 AM today.
Defence spokesman Colonel Goswami confirmed the death of the jawan and claimed that the preliminary investigation revealed that he (solider) died due to consumption of poisonous substance.
“We have registered a Medico Legal Case (MLC) and started investigation in the matter”, he added.
Sources said that the father of the deceased solider is in the state police and had managed admission of his son at GMC without mentioning that he has consumed poison. “When the things went out of control in the hospital he requested the army authorities to shift his son to the military hospital”, a police officer said, preferring anonymity.
