Counterfeit dollars seized in Delhi, three held

New Delhi : Three people have been arrested on charges of printing and selling counterfeit US dollars in the capital after fake American currency nominally worth $10,000 (Rs.400,000) was recovered from them, police said Saturday.

“We have arrested Santosh Kumar Gupta, 42, Ravi Shankar Mishra, 35, Om Prakash Aggarwal, 67 with the counterfeit US currency from Mandawali area in east Delhi Friday,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (East District) Ajay Chaudhry said.

Police also seized a computer, a printer-cum-scanner, dye for the $100 note, an offset printing machine and raw material for counterfeiting dollars.

Chaudhry said information was received that two people were selling fake US dollars in a house in Mandawali.

“It was also learnt that they had been selling a $100 note for Rs.1,200. Following the information, the house was raided and the accused were arrested,” he added.
