Chandigarh : A local court Saturday granted bail to Amrik Singh, the younger son of legendary wrestler and MP Dara Singh, after he was arrested Friday for allegedly assaulting and outraging the modesty of his wife.
Amrik was arrested with three others, including his maternal uncle and a lawyer, following a complaint made by his wife Amrita Randhawa.
The court asked Amrik to furnish a surety a bond of Rs.20,000.
He has been charged with outraging the modesty of his wife, assault and trespass, a police official investigating the case said Friday.
The couple have been going through divorce proceedings for the last one year, though they live in the same house in Chandigarh’s upscale Sector 8.
Amrik had himself called the police to his house late Thursday night after he found a young man in his wife’s bedroom. He beat up the man and injured him.
The police later registered a case and arrested Amrik, his maternal uncle, his lawyer and another person. His wife alleged that Amrik and others came to her room, assaulted her and her former student Ritu Roy without any reason.
Before his arrest Amrik told IANS: “Is it a crime to take to task someone who has trespassed into your house in the middle of the night?”
