Car blast injures 17 in Pakistan

Islamabad : At least 17 people, including a woman, were injured in a car bomb blast in the Pakistani city of Peshawar on Saturday, a police officer and witnesses said.

The blast at a car parking in cantonment area also damaged several vehicles in the busiest area, City Police Chief Abdul Majeed Khan told reporters.

Widow glasses of several nearby buildings were smashed, witnesses said.

The car, parked outside a bank, caught fire as the device went off with a huge explosion heard in many parts Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province.

Fire fighters were called out to extinguish the fire.

The blast was so huge that many people came out of their offices.

There was no immediate claim from any group and it was not clear as who parked the car in the parking.

The police cordoned off the area and experts from bomb disposal squad examined the car.
