India for more trade, investment ties with Bulgaria

New Delhi : India Tuesday called for greater trade ties more bilateral investments with Bulgaria by exploring new sectors of cooperation.

“We look forward to your cooperation and support in strengthening the India-EU strategic partnership in all its manifestations. We have begun negotiations on a broad-based trade and investment agreement,” India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath told Bulgarian Minister for Economy and Energy Petar Dimitrov, who called on him.

Dimitrov is part of the delegation accompanying Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev who is on a week-long visit here.

“The Bulgarian geographical location and membership of the EU offer new opportunities for Indian companies to sell to and invest in Bulgaria,” Kamal Nath added.

Currently, India’s exports to Bulgaria amount to $40 million and the items include machinery and instruments, drugs, pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals, metals and non-ferrous metals. It imports mainly inorganic chemicals, wheat, iron and steel and machinery amounting to $39 million.
