Patna : A team of the National Commission for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi Nomadic Tribes has begun a probe into the lynching of 10 alleged thieves by a mob in Bihar’s Vaishali district.
The victims belonged to the Nat community of gypsies, known for its backwardness. The commission will try to find the reasons that led to the gory incident.
A three-member team, led by commission president Bal Krishnan Sidh Ram Rengare, visited Dhelpurwa village in Vaishali district, about 40 km away where the incident took place Thursday.
Rengare told IANS over telephone Sunday that the Bihar government had asked for a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe to ascertain whether the victims were indeed thieves.
Meanwhile, the Bihar government has decided to impose a collective fine on the villagers for taking the law into their own hands.
Amanullah said the decision to impose the collective fine was taken at a high level meeting of top police officials chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday.
