England won the toss but elected to field and restricted New Zealand to 164 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. In reply, England made 159 for eight and fell short by five runs. New Zealand bagged two points with the victory.

Man of the Match Craig McMillan (57, 31 balls, 3x4s, 4x6s) and Scott Styris (41, 31 balls, 1x4s, 4x6s) were involved in a 60-run partnership, which helped New Zealand to pose a challenging total for the English team.

The Kiwis did not have a good start as they were reduced to 31 for four in just the sixth over but both McMillan and Styris spanked the English bowlers to all parts of the ground.

For England, medium pacers James Anderson and Darren Maddy picked up two wickets each while Stuart Broad, Andrew Flintoff and Paul Collingwood picked up a wicket apiece.

England got a brilliant start as openers Darren Maddy (50) and Vikram Solanki (24) added 62 runs for the first wicket. But they lost wickets when it mattered the most and lost the pace in the final overs.

The margin of victory was small, but New Zealand were the better side. They are now almost certain for the semi-final.
