Dhaka-Cairo ties to deepen further – Bangladesh President

Dhaka : Bangladesh President Prof Iajuddin Ahmed on Tuesday expressed satisfaction at the existing bilateral relations between Egypt and Bangladesh and hoped they would be further streghtened and deepened in the days to come.

The President made the observation when newly appointed Ambassador of Egypt to Bangladesh Fayez Mustafa Noseir presented his credentials to Prof Iajuddin at Bangabhaban here.

Welcoming the envoy, he congratulated Fayez on his new assignment as the Ambassador of Egypt to Bangladesh.

Prof Iajuddin said, Bangladesh attaches great importance to its bilateral relations with Egypt.

He underlined the need for enhancing bilateral trade and commerce for the mutual benefit of the two countries and stressed the importance of exchanging visit programmes by the trade delegation of both the countries for exploring the all avenues of economic co-operation.

Dr Iajuddin apprised the envoy that the government of Egypt may import our high class pharmaceuticals, melamine, garments and jute goods at a very competitive price. He also stressed on exchanging educational progoramme between the two countries.

The President praised the role of Al-Azhar University for imparting Islamic education to the students of the Muslim countries.

He also appraised the envoy that the next parliamentary election would be held within the time frame set by the Election Commission. He asked the Ambassador for his personal initiative in finalising the proposed agreement on establishing Bangladesh-Egypt Joint Commission regarding trade and investment, science and technological cooperation, economic and technical cooperation and cooperation in agriculture.

Dr Iajuddin apprised the envoy that an Egyptian private sector company, ORASCOM, are playing important role by investing in Bangladesh’s telecommunication sector.

The President also apprised the Ambassador that the Bangladeshi troops are working in various UN Peace- Keeping Operations across the globe, particularly in the African region and earned reputation from the world community.

He assured the “Ambassador of all support and cooperation in discharging his duties in Bangladesh and wished him a good health and happiness.
