The single judge bench of Justice Anjani Kumar, hearing a writ petition filed by a group of policemen who have been affected by the government’s order, however, declined to stay the dismissal order.

As many as 22,000 policemen were recruited to various wings of the state police during the previous regime headed by Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The Mayawati government, alleging large-scale fraud in the recruitments, dismissed 6,500 policemen last week, and 3,964 more policemen were sacked Tuesday.

More dismissals are expected, as the inquiry into the alleged scam is still going on.

The court has given the government three week’s time to file its reply.
