New Delhi : G4S Hindustan Football Club, a premier Delhi outfit, Friday appointed Nigerian legend Bernard Oparanozie as its coach – a ‘first’ in the club’s 50-year history.
“We are delighted to welcome Bernard to the family. I expect that Bernard will provide a valuable dimension to the team and lead it to more wins,” said D.K Bose, organising secretary of G4S Hindustan Football Club.
Oparanozie, who holds an Asian Football Confederation license courses, has had a long and successful association with the Indian football, beginning 1989.
He represented Sesa Goa, Mohan Bagan, Brothers Union, JCT Phagwara, FC Cochin and Mahindra & Mahindra. Later, he coached teams like Red Star Academy of Kolkata, Brigade Boys and Mohan Bagan Club. Bagan won the Super Cup under his guidance.
“Our country owns 21 percent of the world’s population and deserves attention to various fields of sports especially football. Therefore, G4S in conjunction with Hindustan Football Club has been supporting this exciting game,” said Rehana Qureshi of G4S.
G4S Hindustan FC was the first one to acquire corporate sponsorship. From the money garnered from sponsors, it has regularly participated in all major domestic national tournaments including the B Division of the National Football League and the Durand Cup.
