Srinagar : Eleven labourers were killed and nine others wounded when the truck they were riding in fell in a deep gorge on the Srinagar-Leh highway near Namkeela village, about 200 km from here, Friday.
The police said the labourers were returning to Srinagar from Leh when the driver lost control and the truck rolled into the deep gorge.
“Eleven labourers travelling in the truck died on spot while nine others were injured. All the wounded were rushed to district hospital Kargil, where doctors have described the condition of four as critical,” a police spokesman said.
“Police reinforcements were rushed to the spot to speed up the rescue and relief work,” he said.
