After the fifth round wins Sunday, both Ajax and Eindhoven are level with four wins and a draw with the same goal difference. Ajax take the top spot having scored more goals. Feyenoord has slipped to third.

The two matches were the most eye-catching fixtures of the weekend.

At Eindhoven, the hosts played aggressively, almost sealing victory in the first half by leading 3-0 thanks to two goals from Danish midfielder Kenneth Perez at the 35th and 43rd minutes and a goal from Ecuadorian Edison Mendez.

In the second half, Feyenoord still failed to threaten the Eindhoven goal. In the 88th minute Dutch international Danny Koevermans scored the fourth goal of the afternoon for the hosts.

Feyenoord had made a perfect start to the season winning all their four matches. After a miserable afternoon, it was disappointed to see its winning streak halted at Eindhoven.

At Alkmaar, Ajax opened the scoring at the 33rd minute through a free-kick by Dutch international Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Uruguayan international Luis Suarez added a second for Ajax.

Demy de Zeeuw, also a Dutch international, pulled one back for AZ just before the break.

Nine minutes into the second half, AZ had its best chance to level the score but Mounir El Hamdaoui’s penalty kick was parried by Ajax goalkeeper Marten Stekelenburg.

In the 80th minute, Suarez enlarged the Ajax lead to 3-1. In injury time, Moussa Dembele scored a consolation goal for AZ.
