Jerusalem : The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) raised the alert level on Sunday morning in the north after suspicions that Syria might attack Israel, or other Jewish targets around the world via international terror networks, Israel Radio reported.
The alert came after the tactical fence’s electronic alarm was activated while it was touched and tracks were spotted on the Syrian side of the border, which sparked fears of a possible infiltration from Syria, said the radio.
An IDF spokeswoman, however, told Xinhua that Israeli army is just making a regular reaction on the border after the incident took place.
“We are always on alert,” said the spokeswoman.
The IDF further explained that its soldiers who arrived on the scene ruled out an infiltration and it was possible that a roving animal had triggered the alarm.
Israel Air Force (IAF) jets were alerted twice recently following suspicious activity in the Golan Heights.
IDF confirmed to Xinhua that IAF fighter jets were alerted to the northern border with Syria on Saturday after a Syrian military jet, being tracked by Israel, disappeared from military radar systems.
A short time later, the IAF discovered that the Syrian jet had crashed in Syrian territory and the IAF jets returned to their bases and the level of alert was lowered.
On Thursday, Israeli fighter jets were also dispatched to the Golan Heights when “suspicious activity” was reported in the area, according to military officials.
Later it was discovered that the objects in the air were migrating birds, the officials added.
