The four men, believed to be from the Indian subcontinent, had a rude awakening when the sealed doors of the transporter opened and they found themselves in the midst of a police yard in London, the Sun newspaper reported Thursday.

They had hidden in the lorry in a French port, most likely to have been Calais, in the hope of making an illegal entry into Britain through the Channel Tunnel.

The modified grey BMW 7 Series car with bulletproof glass and reinforced doors had been ordered from BMW headquarters in Munich by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism Command, the Sun reported.

The luxury car, estimated to have cost 100,000 pounds (200,000 dollars), was ordered to provide protection for the former prime minister, who is under 24-hour guard.

Blair was appointed special envoy of the so-called Middle East Quartet, made up of the United Nations, Russia, the US and the European Union (EU), after he stepped down in May.

Meanwhile, the BMW has been sent back to Munich as its security was deemed to have been compromised.

Scotland Yard Thursday confirmed that the police arrested four men who were inside a car
