New Delhi : Rahul Gandhi, the newly inducted general secretary of the Congress, held a brainstorming session with 12 party leaders Thursday morning in the first meeting of a committee on the future challenges before the party.
Party spokesperson M. Veerappa Moily said that preliminary discussions were held during the two-hour meeting of the committee that was constituted Monday as part of the All India Congress Committee reshuffle.
A participant at the meeting disclosed that the economic, social and political issues were taken up for informal discussions.
Moily said that it was too early for the committee to specify its scope of functioning.
“By the next meeting, the agenda of the group would be clear,” he said and added that the agenda would be put before party president Sonia Gandhi for approval.
Besides Rahul, the committee includes Moily, Digvijay Singh, Vayalar Ravi, Anand Sharma, Prithviraj Chavan, Mukul Wasnik, Salman Khursheed, Parameshwar, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sandeep Dikshit, Sachin Pilot and Jairam Ramesh.
The party is facing several challenges, including efforts for its revival in the Hindi heartland, primarily Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The party will also be facing the electorate in Gujarat by December and Himachal Pradesh by February.
