Dubai, Sep 27 (IANS) The Consulate General of India in Dubai will host a special function to celebrate the 138th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Oct 2, which has now been declared the International Day of Non-Violence by the United Nations.
The special function to be organised by the mission along with the Indian High School here will comprise of an exhibition and a public meeting.
A distinguished panel of eminent citizens and select representatives of the international community will share their thoughts on the importance of promoting the culture of non-violence. They will also speak about the relevance of Gandhian philosophy in today’s world, a consulate statement said.
Students from different schools across Dubai have been invited to participate in an exhibition on the theme of “Gandhi and Non-Violence”.
The United Nations has declared Oct 2 the International Day of Non-Violence “…desiring to secure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non violence” and has urged “the states, UN bodies, regional organisations, NGOs and individuals to commemorate the day through education and public awareness”.
