At a time when there have been widespread condemnations over the lax security, the Commission had summoned APF chief Basudev Oli and Home Secretary Umesh Mainali for explanations.

A team of NHRC led by its member Ram Nagina Singh had recently toured the affected regions of Kapilvastu district. Oli and Mainali were briefed about NHRC’s understanding of the situation there.

The Commission also raised concern over the continued human rights abuses in the district and drew the attention of the senior government officials towards the lack of action against guilty ones.

At least 30 people are said to have been killed in communal violence that was triggered after a murder of a local leader Mohit Khan by unidentified gang on Sept 16.

Krishna Nagar, Birpur, Chandrauta, Taulihawa and some other parts of the district were affected by the violence.
