President of Bosnian Serb republic dies

Tirana : President of the Srpska Republic, Milan Jelic, has died of a heart attack, news reaching here from Sarajevo reported.

“It is a sad day for the Republika Srpska,” Bosnian Serb Prime Minister Milorad Dodik said Sunday.

Jelic, 51, died Sunday in a hospital in the town of Doboj, where he had been admitted.

The Dayton Agreement, reached after the 1992-1995 war, has divided Bosnia into a Serb Republic and a Muslim-Croatian Federation.

Jelic, a businessman and an economist, was elected president of the Serb Republic in October 2006.
