Panaji : The Goa government has finally decided to hand over the probe into British teenager Scarlette Keeling’s murder here in February to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following repeated demands from the victim’s mother.
“The process to hand over the matter to CBI is on,” Goa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kishan Kumar told IANS Wednesday.
Earlier, he told mediapersons that he had written to the state home department to transfer the investigations to the central agency since the Goa Police had nothing to hide on the issue.
On the morning of Feb 18, Scarlette’s semi-nude body with several bruises was discovered on the famed Anjuna Beach.
The Goa police have arrested two locals, bartender Samson D’Souza and alleged drug peddler Placido Carvalho.
Her mother Fiona McKeon had accused the police of covering up the matter and sought a CBI inquiry.
Two autopsies conducted on the body pointed to death by drowning, but her mother was not satisfied. Last week, she claimed the body and flew back to Britain from Mumbai, vowing to return.
A team of the National Commission of Women visited Goa this week to inquire into the case.
