Dhaka : Bangladesh Railway (BR) will suspend its train services for about two hours during the morning and evening rush hours every day in Dhaka from April 14 to help ease traffic congestion.
All train services, except for a few commuter trains, will remain suspended from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. once the new scheme is implemented, leading English newspaper The Daily Star reported Thursday.
The step comes from the railway following repeated requests from police at a time when traffic congestion in Dhaka has turned into a complete mess.
At least five minutes are lost when a train passes a level crossing, police was quoted as saying.
Bangladesh is one of the most densely countries in the world with 140 million people live in 147,000 square kilometers’ land, especially in Dhaka, as more and more people coming here from all over the country to seek employment, the city’s traffic is becoming congested day by day.
